Quitting Smoking - Would You Like To Make A Bet?

I’m pretty sure that the sun will come up in the morning so I would bet on that. Aliens could invade the earth tomorrow but I wouldn’t like to take a wager on that.

In life there are all kinds of certainties and uncertainties and none of us ever know how the cards will fall. But in some areas of life we know the odds more stacked for or against us.

As a smoker the odds that smoking will kill you are reasonably high. But the odds that smoking will make you sick are very high, and the odds that smoking will diminish the quality of your life is pretty much 100%.

The problem is that you don’t know which group you will fall into, however you can get some clues by looking into your family history.

A background history of heart disease will increase your odds of a problem, just as obesity, a sedentary lifestyle and a poor diet will compound the effects of smoking.

Most smokers are concerned about cancer, but heart disease and diabetes are also high on the betting tables.

Between all of these problems your chances of a healthy life are low and we haven’t even mention immune and breathing problems. So unless you are a chronic gambler you wouldn’t want to be laying any bets on your health.

Quitting is also about odds. Cold turkey is about 5%, patches around 2% according to UK health data, pharmaceuticals about 22% and hypnosis between 60% and 90% depending on whether it’s done in a group, one to one and the skill and experience of the practitioner.

Another factor that can dramatically improve your odds is your level of commitment. The difference between giving hypnosis a go and coming to a session with a 100% commitment is vast.

Don’t forget that hypnosis is helping you to change some deep seated feelings and beliefs about smoking, so if you are committed your unconscious mind will treat this seriously, if you are casual then your unconscious response will be casual, and your chance of success will be reduced.

The question is this; do you really want to gamble with your health, your life and your happiness, and do you want to give yourself the best odds of successfully quitting.
