Service Dog Helps Teen Manage His Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes is an auto immune disease where the immune system attacks something it’s not supposed to and in this case it attacks cells in the pancreas that make insulin. Nick Gauthier is a Type 1 diabetic patient whose service dog, Qupid, alerts Nick during the video so that he knows it’s time to check his insulin level. Service dogs like Qupid can help a Type 1 diabetic patient manage their diabetes by alerting them to high or low blood sugar levels, before a meter even can.
