Ray Allen, a famous basketball player, joined JDRF to help his little son Walker, who was diagnosed with T1D. Ray took a break in his career in order to be a part of JDRF organization and try to do everything to influence the research work. The whole family joined JDRF organization and lead an active life. Walker’s mother shares her experience taking care after Walker. She says that it’s very painful and hard to do all the time finger pins. Insulin is the main vaccine which can keep Walker alive. Ray Allen changed his life and now spends the most of his time with JDRF. It’s important to divide personal time and the duty – the Allens are very thoughtful and caring parents. They also know that Type 1 Diabetes can result when something in the environment, like a virus, tells your immune system to go after your pancreas. Most of people with T1D have signs of this attack, called autoantibodies. They are presented in almost everyone who has the condition when their blood sugar is high.
Type 1 diabetes can happen along with other autoimmune diseases, like Grave’s disease or vitiligo.
The symptoms are often subtle, but can become severe. They can be:
– Heavy thirst
– Increased hunger
– Nausea and vomiting
– Dry mouth
– Pain in your belly
– Frequent urination
– Unexplained weight loss (even though you’re eating and feel hungry)
– Fatigue (weak, tired feeling)
– Blurred vision
– Heavy, labored breathing (your doctor will call this Kussmaul respiration)
– Frequent infections of the skin, urinary tract, or vagina. Another mill in the area, The Original Bradford Soap Works, dates back to the 1800s and is still in use today. West Warwick was recently named the “Mattress Capital of Rhode Island.” West Warwick has a council-manager form of government. There are five town councilors, one for each of the town’s wards. Each is elected to a two-year term.
