We are JDRF – Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. We won’t stop until we create a world without T1D (type one diabetes). We are committed to eradicating type 1 diabetes and its effects for everyone with type 1, and at risk of developing it. T1D treatment options are improving all the time. We are driving research to improve the technology people with T1D use to monitor blood sugar levels and research that will ultimately deliver a cure.
Diabetes is a lifelong condition that causes a person’s blood sugar (glucose) level to become too high. The hormone insulin – is responsible for controlling the amount of glucose in the blood.
JDRF’s Mission: is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by this disease.
JDRF – the type 1 diabetes charity. Join the worldwide army of people who are making it their personal mission to fight type 1 diabetes. Together, we will create a world without type 1 diabetes. In 1914, the city became the home of the original Economy Grocery Store, which later grew into the Stop & Shop grocery chain. Two related food service chains, Steve’s Ice Cream and Bertucci’s, sprung from adjacent lots in Davis Square. Assembly Square Marketplace is a popular center of business in the city. Davis Square is home to the Somerville Theatre, which houses the Somerville branch of the Museum of Bad Art and plays host to the Independent Film Festival of Boston each spring. P.A.’s Lounge is a live music venue in the city. Two major art studios, the Brickbottom Artists Building and the Joy Street Studios, are located in former industrial buildings in the Brickbottom district. JDRF is the only organization with a strategic research plan to end T1D. Our strategies include: Artificial Pancreas Systems Artificial pancreas systems will eliminate blood glucose testing and carb counting by totally automating insulin dosing, initially preventing dangerous low blood sugars and eventually ensuring ideal glucose control. Complications JDRF’s complications research is leading to therapies to treat and even reverse some of the debilitating, costly, and life-threatening complications caused by T1D. Encapsulation JDRF’s encapsulation research will restore insulin independence for 18 months to two years
by implanting newly created beta cells into a protective capsule, which eliminates the need for toxic immune suppression therapies. JDRF has led the search for a cure for T1D since our founding in 1970. In those days, people commonly called the disease “juvenile diabetes” because it was frequently diagnosed in, and strongly associated with, young children. Our organization began as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Later, to emphasize exactly how we planned to end the disease, we added a word and became the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.Today, we know an equal number of children and adults are diagnosed every day—approximately 110 people per day. Thanks to better therapies—which JDRF funding has been instrumental in developing and making available—people with T1D live longer and stay healthier while they await the cure. So a few years ago, we changed our name to JDRF: Juvenile Diabetes Reseach Foundation. The cost of rescuing an children is not quantified only in dollars! You can Spread a Word and invite your friends to HELP! Spread the Word JDRF relies heavily on volunteerism and has had a tremendous impact on the lives of thousands of T1D children and their families.
