Students Learn About UW Diabetes Research

Diabetes research came to life for middle school students in the rural Weyauwega-Fremont school district near Appleton who visited the University of Wisconsin-Madison for an up-close look at science in action. Diabetes researchers in the Department of Medicine hosted the students during a field trip that included discussions, a laboratory tour, and a hands-on histology staining experiment. Participants from UW included endocrinology division faculty members Dr. Vince Cryns and Dr. Dawn Davis. Postdoctoral researchers included Drs. Jackie Wisinski, Justin Bushkofsky, and Carly Kibbe. Graduate students included Rachel Fenske and Danielle Fontaine. Scientist Dr. Amelia Linnemann also participated.
