The Growing Pandemic of Diabetes
This video outlines the growing number of people who are either diabetic and prediabetic. This is a warning to psychiatrists that because many medications they prescribe have metabolic consequences they need to monitor their patients and be aware of any weight gain. In the past, this has not been a priority. But with the introduction of atypical antipsychotics, some of which add greatly to weight gain, psychiatrists need to be more involved in their patients physical health especially if the medication they prescribe is changing their metabolic rate.
