Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and young adults, and was previously known as juvenile diabetes. In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. Diabetes – is a problem with your body that causes blood glucose (sugar) levels to rise higher than normal. This is also called hyperglycemia. When you eat your body breaks food down into glucose and sends it into the blood. Insulin then helps move the glucose from the blood into your cells. When glucose enters your cells, it is either used as fuel for energy right away or stored for later use. In a person with diabetes, there is a problem with insulin. But, not everyone with diabetes has the same problem. There are different types of diabetes – type 1, type 2, and a condition called gestational diabetes, which happens during pregnancy. You’re the reason for our success. Every dollar we put toward research comes from donations. So when you support JDRF with your time, talent, voice and, yes, your money, you enable us to advance even more research. There are many ways to join the JDRF family, but for 45 years there has been only one reason—because we are the organization that will turn Type One into Type None. Take Action – Don’t be indifferent! The Community Center Gym offers adult and youth drop in basketball, racquetball, volleyball, and wall ball activities throughout the week. Activities also include tournaments and organized competitions for youths and adults. Gym passes are also available. Racquetball courts are available for use on the hour and during Center open hours unless in use for City programs. Patrons may reserve one court per day for 60 minutes. Patrons may exceed the 60-minute limit as long as there are no others waiting to use the court. If players are waiting, the match must end at the pre-designated reservation time.
