Type 1 diabetes trials give hope for more normal life now
There is new hope for people with type 1 diabetes after trials of a new treatment have begun in London.
The life-changing condition affects 400,000 people in the UK; 29,000 of them are children.
Unlike type 2 diabetes, it is not linked to lifestyle but caused by the immune system destroying the cells that produce insulin.
The BBC’s Fergus Walsh has had exclusive access to the trial at Guys & St Thomas Hospital in London.
