Metformin is the standard to help bring blood sugar levels down for type 2 diabetes but now It also appears to help repair damaged blood cells by increasing the number of blood vessel (vascular) stem cells. the study’s senior author, Dr. Jolanta Weaver stated “We have shown — both in test tube and in patients — the mechanism behind the cardioprotective effects of metformin, This is likely to lead to the development of new drugs for heart disease in diabetes,”
