Type 1 diabetes is an auto-immune condition in which the immune system is activated to destroy the cells in the pancreas which produce insulin. We do not know what causes this auto-immune reaction. Type 1 diabetes is not linked to modifiable lifestyle factors. There is no cure and it cannot be prevented.
Type 1 diabetes:
– Occurs when the pancreas does not produce insulin
– Represents around 10% of all cases of diabetes and is one of the most common chronic childhood conditions
– Onset is usually abrupt and the symptoms obvious
– Symptoms can include excessive thirst and urination, unexplained weight loss, weakness and fatigue and blurred vision
– Is managed with insulin injections several times a day or the use of an insulin pump.

At that time, Butte was the state’s center of political and financial power. Built for $482,000, the Courthouse features massive copper doors, elegantly painted murals on the interior, and wide front steps at the entrance from which several presidents have addressed Butte’s citizens. Offices within are laid out around a rotunda with an elaborate stained glass dome.
Butte Water Company Building was designed in 1907 by architect George Shanely. Originally, the building housed the Montana Independent Telephone Company. In 1918, the building became the home of the Butte Water Company as evidenced by the sign set in molded stone on the face of the building. Ray Allen, a professional basketball player, gave up his career in order to help his son Walker to get rid of T1D. Ray and his family joined JDRF and the organization has their back. Walker’s mother tries to help the others to prevent the disease. She urges that it’s important to know all the warning T1D signs. She talks about extreme thirst, frequent urination, drowsiness, increased appetite, sudden weight loss and changes in vision. Ray’s wife says that knowing these warning signs may help to detect the disease very early and try to prevent the diabetes. The Allens encourage everyone to join JDRF and try to save the planet from T1D. The Health Care and Social Assistance sector comprises establishments providing health care and social assistance for individuals. The sector includes both health care and social assistance because it is sometimes difficult to distinguish between the boundaries of these two activities. The industries in this sector are arranged on a continuum starting with those establishments providing medical care exclusively, continuing with those providing health care and social assistance, and finally finishing with those providing only social assistance. The services provided by establishments in this sector are delivered by trained professionals. JDRF has led the search for a cure for T1D since our founding in 1970. In those days, people commonly called the disease “juvenile diabetes” because it was frequently diagnosed in, and strongly associated with, young children. Our organization began as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation. Later, to emphasize exactly how we planned to end the disease, we added a word and became the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.Today, we know an equal number of children and adults are diagnosed every day—approximately 110 people per day. Thanks to better therapies—which JDRF funding has been instrumental in developing and making available—people with T1D live longer and stay healthier while they await the cure. Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is the leading global organization funding T1D research. Millions of people around the world live with type 1 diabetes (T1D), a life-threatening autoimmune disease that strikes both children and adults. There is no way to prevent it, and at present, no cure. JDRF works every day to change this by amassing grassroots support, deep scientific knowledge and strong industry and academic partnerships to fund research. The JDRF identity was created with these key considerations in mind. We have dropped the formal name “Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation” from our identity and will be known simply as JDRF.
