JDRF is the leading global organization focused on type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. Driven by passionate, grassroots volunteers connected to children, adolescents, and adults with this disease, JDRF is now the largest charitable supporter of T1D research. The goal of JDRF research is to improve the lives of all people affected by T1D by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating, and preventing T1D. JDRF collaborates with a wide spectrum of partners who share this goal.
JDRF aims to find new ways to treat type 1 diabetes and its complications, prevent type 1 from developing and find the cure for people who already have the condition. Alfred F. Dover Township was incorporated as one of New Jersey’s first 104 townships by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature on February 21, 1798. Portions of the township were taken to from Jackson Township (March 6, 1844), Union Township (March 10, 1846, now Barnegat Township), Brick Township (February 15, 1850), Manchester Township (April 6, 1865), Berkeley Township (March 31, 1875), Island Heights (May 6, 1887), Lavallette (December 21, 1887) and Seaside Heights (February 26, 1913). On November 7, 2006, voters approved a change of the official name from the Township of Dover (or, Dover Township) to the Township of Toms River, effective November 14, 2006. The founders of JDRF organization are two tiny women – Carol Lurie and Lee Ducat, who created JDRF for the sake of their own sons and other T1D people. Carol Lurie and her husband played a vital role in JDRF life. Their son was diagnosed and they decided to do everything to find the cure. Lee Ducat organized JDRF for fundraising for the research. Her mission was to raise as much money, so T1D research will start to work. Carol and Lee discussed vital JDRF projects during family dinners. Their greatest accomplishment was Washington. They began to see senators and congressmen and JDRF raised a crucial sum of money for the research. JDRF’s results are amazingly important and vital – what was in the past and what is now deserves much esteem. Type 1 diabetes in children used to be known as juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes. Alternative Names of T1D: Insulin-dependent diabetes; Juvenile onset diabetes; Diabetes – type 1. Type 1 Diabetes – In type 1 diabetes, your immune system mistakenly destroys the cells in your pancreas that make insulin. Your body treats these cells as invaders and destroys them. This can happen over a few weeks, months, or years. When enough beta cells are destroyed, your pancreas stops making insulin, or makes too little insulin. Because the pancreas does not make insulin, insulin needs to be replaced. Insulin does not come in a pill. People with type 1 diabetes take insulin by injection with a syringe, an insulin pen, or an insulin pump. The Health Care and Social Assistance sector comprises establishments providing health care and social assistance for individuals. The sector includes both health care and social assistance because it is sometimes difficult to distinguish between the boundaries of these two activities. The industries in this sector are arranged on a continuum starting with those establishments providing medical care exclusively, continuing with those providing health care and social assistance, and finally finishing with those providing only social assistance. The services provided by establishments in this sector are delivered by trained professionals. JDRF is the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research. JDRF’s goal is to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people’s lives until we achieve a world without T1D.
